First session of Kyrgyz Parliament National Committee for Population and Development
The press conference for outcome of the first session of Kyrgyz Parliament National Committee for Population and Development has been hold at press center of Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic on 12.06.08.
The Kyrgyz Parliament National Committee for Population and Development and its membership have been approved by Resolution of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic dated 14.02.08.
The first session of the Committee has been conducted on 11.06.08 with involvement of the UNFPA’s representatives, at which the issues of Kyrgyz population policy have been discussed. Its has been touched the principle role of deputies in generation of the political will and understanding of a need in the comprehensive approach in the field of population development, particularly in assessment of demography tendencies, socio-economic situation of women, young people, seniors, and other vulnerable groups, elaboration of the population policy, strategy, and program with account of specific needs of every single groups.
The speakers brought up the issues of population situation in Kyrgyzstan, and, especially the problem of high maternal and infant mortality, general mortality, propagation of HIV/AIDS, problems of migration outflows related to overall economic decline, prospective of population ageing as well as main tendencies of the population development in the near future.
The members of the Committee and interested deputies have also discussed the necessity in inclusion of the population aspect into planning of development and implementation of monitoring and evaluation activities for efficiency of the policy, programs, their progress in achievement of the national and international development goals.
Following-up the session it has been decided to define priority vectors of the committee’s work for 2008-2009, and develop the action plan for 2008 too. The priority objective is the raising of public awareness about population development problems through ensuring some free or preferential on-air broadcasting time on the national radio and television channels to place social informational materials in line with the Law on Advertisement.
