Addressing Postpartum Hemorrhage: Critical Clinical Guidelines Discussed in Bishkek

Technical discussion on postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) clinical guidelines was held on February 26, 2025 to convene medical professionals to discuss and refine the latest approaches to managing PPH, a critical concern in maternal healthcare in the Kyrgyz Republic.

The agenda included key topics such as minimizing the risk of PPH, managing uterine tone, temporary methods for stopping bleeding, surgical treatments, and the use of a non-pneumatic anti-shock garment. Experts led discussions on infusion-transfusion therapy, anesthesiological tactics for massive blood loss, and the management of late postpartum bleeding.

Presentations shared with 135 ob/gyn and anaesthesiologists covered strategies for fluid and blood product replacement during PPH, including considerations for blood pressure management and the importance of maintaining normothermia, the application and benefits of the non-pneumatic anti-shock garment as a temporary measure to stabilize hemodynamic status, prevention strategies, risk factor assessment, and treatment protocols for uterine atony, a major cause of PPH, techniques for immediate bleeding control and surgical options for managing severe PPH, and the causes, diagnosis, and management of bleeding occurring after the initial 24 hours postpartum.

"This technical discussion is crucial for standardizing the common approach to postpartum hemorrhage. By sharing knowledge and refining guidelines, we can significantly improve outcomes for women experiencing this life-threatening complication," said Dr. Ch. Stakeeva, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology #2 at the Kyrgyz State Medical Academy.

The event facilitated knowledge sharing and collaboration among healthcare providers, aiming to improve the quality of care for Kyrgyzstani women experiencing PPH. The focus was on translating theoretical knowledge into practical skills, ensuring that healthcare providers are equipped to confidently and effectively manage PPH in real-world clinical settings.
