On April 11-14, the FAO/UNFPA project "Joint prosperity through cooperation in the border regions of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan" with the financial support of the UN Peacebuilding Fund held information and awareness campaigns in the villages of Jalal-Abad and Osh regions with members of existing self-help groups, rural women, youth, representatives of village councils and local self-government bodies, women council, youth committees and other active representatives of social support departments.
The project aims to strengthen cross-border cooperation between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan in the environmental and socio-economic sectors. The project will build trust and confidence between local authorities, communities, and civil society organizations through the empowerment of women and youth in peacebuilding processes. The project will apply climate-smart agricultural practices to preserve shared resources, as well as create common platforms and networks to promote positive social, cultural, and economic exchange between communities on both sides of the border.
The purpose of the project is to strengthen mutual trust and economic cooperation between the border communities of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan through the empowerment of young women and men and communities through increased gender equality and opportunities, as well as an exchange of experiences in technical training on climate-smart agriculture, entrepreneurship support and trade for women and youth in the border areas.
