Today, it is more important than ever to talk about gender inequality, as discriminatory laws and social norms are still prevalent, women are also underrepresented at all levels of political leadership, and one in five women and girls between the ages of 15 and 49 report having been physically or sexually abused by an intimate partner during the year. In this regard, bloggers, as opinion leaders, play an important role in promoting gender equality among a large audience of social media users.
In this regard, the IDEA Central Asia team, with the technical support of UNFPA Kyrgyzstan within the global Spotlight Initiative, held the #QuizNight online course "What is gender equality and how to build a route to it" - https://coursive.id/. The online course on gender equality helps people understand where to start, reinforces skills, and provides simple examples through a variety of interactive methods.
"...this course is designed for everyone so that you and I can become more sensitive, we know what gender equality is and how we can come to it through education." - Aizat Ruslanova, Executive Director of IDEA Central Asia, notes.
#QuizNight began with a welcoming speech by the organizers and a live performance by Ayim Ayilchieva and continued with a short information session on "What is gender equality" because the goal of the quiz game is also to increase the capacity of bloggers to counteract gender-based violence.
"As a blogger, I care about the topic of gender inequality and violence against women in our country. Unfortunately, the situation is not getting any better, and that is why I think it is important to talk about the problems openly, educate my audience and educate ourselves. It is important for me to raise this topic with my audience in the right rhetoric and correct format, and that is why I take an active part in the "Spotlight" campaign." - Adinai Kassymbekova, entrepreneur, and blogger.
The quiz game was divided into five rounds according to its theme, complexity, and presentation format. Each round has its own theme and its own timing for answers.
