UNFPA Country Director Mr. Ronny Lindstrom made his official visit to Kyrgyzstan on August 14-18, 2022. The purpose of the visit was to discuss priorities of partnership with the Government in the areas of women and adolescent reproductive health and rights, gender equality, and population dynamics.

 

During his weeklong visit, Ronny Lindstrom had a series of high-level bilateral meetings with government partners.

UNFPA Country Director in Kyrgyzstan Mr.Ronny Lindstrom met with Mr. Kudaibergen Bazarbaev, Minister of Labor, Social Security, and Migration of the Kyrgyz Republic. In his remarks, Minister Bazarbaev appreciated UNFPA for the longtime collaboration and partnership with the Ministry and expressed his excitement about UNFPA’s mandate in ending Gender–Based Violence and Harmful Practices in Kyrgyzstan. Minister informed that they will continue to involve capacity building and empowering the different actors and strengthening legislation against GBV, including a review of existing laws to address the gaps which undermine implementation. Mr. Lindstrom stressed the importance of focusing on the rights of persons with disabilities support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, especially the principle of “leaving no one behind” (LNOB).

During the meeting, Chairman of the National Statistical Committee Baktybek Kudaibergenov thanked UNFPA for many years of cooperation aimed at the development of national statistics, and for assistance in preparing and conducting the Population and Housing Census of Kyrgyzstan in 2022. The parties noted that during the cooperation with UNFPA, a lot of work has been done to build the capacity of statistics workers, and improve the production and dissemination of data. Mr.Lindstrom informed that UNFPA will continue to closely cooperate for the development of statistics, including through the provision of expert, technical, methodological, and financial support in Kyrgyzstan.

UNFPA Country Director also held a series of meetings with the United Nations Country Team and the development partners (KOICA  to explore possibilities for cooperation and collaboration in the fields of SRH, GBV, PD, and Youth.
