It helps to monitor health, receive personalized advice from doctors, reminders about appointments and medications, articles about nutrition, psychological conditions, etc.
The purpose of the event is to present an effective digital tool that will help women of Kyrgyzstan feel confident during pregnancy and the postpartum period, as well as to establish sustainable interaction with the medical community and partner structures for its further promotion.
UNFPA Eastern Europe and Central Asia Regional Office (EECARO) has partnered with amma.family and plays a crucial role in supporting such initiatives. According to Dr. Tamar Khomasuridze, MD, PhD, SRH Regional Advisor, UNFPA Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia: “The amma application exemplifies our commitment to leveraging technology for improved maternal health outcomes. The UNFPA Regional Office is proud to support the development and implementation of such innovative solutions that empower pregnant women and families to ensure they receive the health care and information they need throughout their pregnancy journey.”
The presentation of the application aroused lively interest from the health care providers , representatives of the Ministry of Health, international organizations, and civil society. A video about the application and new information and educational materials created specifically for women in Kyrgyzstan, taking into account local realities and legislation, were presented.

During the round table, participants discussed the importance of digital solutions in women's health care, especially in conditions of limited access to medical services in rural regions.
Aizhamal Matomorova, Head of the Department of Evidence-Based Medicine and Medical Technologies under the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, spoke about the advantages of the application: “The application provides users with access to more than 460 evidence-based articles, contains a personal pregnancy calendar, reminders, advice on nutrition, physical and psycho-emotional state, as well as legal information for expectant mothers. Particular attention was paid to cultural and linguistic accessibility during the adaptation process — the application interface is now available in Kyrgyz language too in more than 190 countries,” she said.
The results of content adaptation and further plans for promoting amma among women of reproductive age and the medical community were also presented.
Baktygul Bozgorpoeva, Director of the Public Foundation “Alliance for Family Planning” noted that the amma mobile application has become another step towards digital equality in healthcare and an important tool to support future mothers in Kyrgyzstan: “This is especially relevant for Kyrgyzstan: in conditions where access to health care services in remote areas is limited, the mobile application becomes a reliable source of knowledge, confidence, and support. Today, more than 95% of adults in the country use mobile phones, and most have access to the Internet — this opens doors to quality medical information even in the most remote corners of the country,” she said.
amma is a step towards digital equality, caring for the health of every woman, and a new level of maternal support in Kyrgyzstan.
These events were organized within the framework of the UN South-South Cooperation Project on reducing preventable maternal morbidity through access to quality health services through the use of obstetric surveillance response and teleconsultation in maternity hospitals. This project, funded by the India-UN Development Partnership Fund, aims to reduce preventable maternal morbidity in five pilot maternity hospitals in Kyrgyzstan.
The project is supported and implemented by the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic and UNFPA.
